The third step when teaching how to improve a player s blocking skills in volleyball focuses on pressing over the net. She always wants her hands to be at eye level as she is moving across the net. The player should never drop her hands down out of fear of touching the net.
When you move to press over the net, push your shoulders up towards your ears and with your hands together and fingers spread out wide and stiff with your tight core. By doing this the ball is pushed back and not allowed to roll through loose hands.
With the player being in this position with a tight core will allow her to press over the net to force the ball back down on the court for a point instead of it deflecting off of player loosely.
